Pewdiepie has been on YouTube for 20 years! It's amazing to think he has been making videos for that long. I didn't start following him until 2014 when the news was buzzing Pewdiepie made 40 million in a single year.
When I joined he would mostly do lets play videos of him playing some random game. I watched a few of them but honestly I have better things to do than watch a guy play video games especially when I have enough trouble finding time to play games myself.
I did however instantly like him. He is funny and authentic which I think is a big part of his success. The other part is consistency. The guy made a video or more everyday for over 10 years straight. He treated it like a legit enterprise and he worked hard.
2015 he released his first video game Legend of the Bro Fist. I bought it and played about 3 hours. It was a cool 2D side-scroller.
Guy hits 10million subs, a first in YouTube history.
2016 he hits 50 million subs which is crazy but holy cow was that a wild ride. His fame was skyrocketing to the point Time Magazine named him in the 100 most influential people in the world for that year.
2017 was the year of conroversies which I personally found funny as hell, He paid some popular indian guys on FIVERR to make a sign that said "Kill All Jews" as a joke to show how ridiculous the internet can be. He simply apologized on Tumblr of all places and moved on.
Later in 2017 he uses the N-word with a hard R on a PUBG stream. He simply apologized and moved on with his life.
This is one of the things I really respect him for. He did not bow to cancel culture. They wanted him to go on a huge apology tour. Visit the holocaust sites and allow himself to be publicly shamed.
Lesson: If you make a mistake apologize and move on.
Not here to list every single thing he has done so skipping ahead to 2019.
He marries longtime girlfriend Marzia also known as CutiePie on YouTube. Sadly she took down all her videos which sucks because she had a unique voice. I guess they figured one YouTuber was enough for one household.
Pewdiepie is first channel in YouTube history to reach 100million subscribers.
Moving to current day 2026, Felix and Marzia have 2 children and are living happily in Japan.
The main reason I respect the guy is because he allowed his channel to evolve and make content he wants to make. Last year he made a video about switching to Linux. This video came at the perfect time for me because Windows was forcing users to upgrade hardware. It was also proven Windows 11 would be actively spying on people for advertising and other purposes.
Not only did he make detailed videos about how he installed ARCH Linux on his laptop and desktop he explained why you should really take the time to learn Linux.
He also made videos explaining why you should de-google yourself. The guy really went all out and eliminated Google from his life. The amount of data Google and big tech in general collects from people is insane. Some of it can be very useful like determining traffic congestion and even congestion in restaurants! However the fact of the matter is that big tech and government are working hand in hand to suppress and control people. This is why you should consider taking your privacy in your own hands.
Personally I have:
Switched all my computers to Linux
Moved to Davinci Resolve and ditched Adobe
Stop using GMAIL and other big tech email services
Reduced my social media footprint
Planning on doing other things, will make a post about it later.
Felix is also deep into philosophy. He makes book videos once or twice a year showing us what he has read and making suggestions on how the principles in the books can help you. I have read a few books he has recommended.
Marcus Aureilias Meditations being my favorite. He talks alot about Epictetus or Epictitties as I call him.
